Review: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Rating: ★ ★ ½ ☆ ☆
Date Read: December, 2003
Read Count: 1

I liked Hawthorne’s prose much more than the story he’s telling, or rather the propaganda he’s pushing onto to general audiences. Even after more than a century has passed, Hawthorne’s agendas are still being taught today in schools all over the country. Abstinence is the only way, children, is unfortunately the prevailing message. And also, women who engage in extramarital affairs should be condemned and physically marked for life (even though it takes two people to have an affair).

Yes, these messages are still persevering, and we can all “thank” Hawthorne for his “hard work” in perpetuating such “morality.”
